Seth’s Message
We continue our series of articles about how our church works. Each month we will look at one of the ministry teams, who is on the team, what they do, and how often and when they meet.
Last month our focus was on the Christian Education Committee. This month our attention is on the Committee on Nominations.
This is a group that only meets at one time of the year, but when they meet they are busy. Our entire purpose is to discern the abilities and capabilities of the congregation to staff all of our ministry teams. We meet in the preparation leading up to charge conference and in many cases our work is finished after one, two, and sometimes three meetings. We usually start with the leadership and then focus on the committees that are required by our Book of Discipline (Staff-Parstor / Parish, Finance, and Trustees), and then every other committee. Our goal is always to find just the right people who have the gifts and graces for each position in the church. Once all we have staff each committee we forward our report onto the Administrative Council who then forwards the decisions to Charge Conference.
The chair of the committee is the pastor and this is a requirement of the Book of Discipline. Committee members are: Brad Belke, Janet Fletcher-Rich, Marcia Lubick, Janet Axelson, Betty Banderob, Heather Marsh, Lauren Kippen, Roberta Dobb, and Isaac Hoffman.
Next month we will look at the ministry brought to us by the Lay Advocates.
